Morto da poco più di un anno, Priest è noto al grande pubblico soprattutto per le sue opere fantascientifiche nelle quali si percepisce l'influenza di H. G. Wells.
Tra le tematiche più utilizzate: la realtà come illusione, la scienza (e/o la tecnologia), ambientazioni isolate come isole/arcipelaghi, personaggi disillusi. E’ un autore che ama sperimentare: difficile associarlo a uno stile in particolare, ama creare esperienze di lettura uniche, specifiche per ogni opera.
Il suo sito, rimane come l’ha lasciato, fatta eccezione per un ultimo messaggio scritto dalla moglie, nel quale informa i lettori della sua morte e dell’importanza per lui, negli ultimi momenti, di includere un ringraziamento a tutti i suoi lettori nel blog, si chiama THE LAST POST. L’ho trovata una cosa molto toccante.
Ho scelto di cominciare con The Prestige per la familiarità con il film, che ho apprezzato molto. Mi sono anche procurata The Islanders perché il progetto mi ha ricordato Le città invisibili di Calvino, che è uno dei miei scrittori italiani preferiti.
Having passed away just over a year ago, Priest is primarily known to the general public for his science fiction works, which reflect the influence of H. G. Wells.
Among the most frequently explored themes are: reality as an illusion, science (and/or technology), isolated settings such as islands/archipelagos, and disillusioned characters.
He is an author who loves experimentation: it is difficult to associate him with a particular style, as he enjoys creating unique reading experiences specific to each work.
His website, remains as he left it, except for a final message (titled THE LAST POST) written by his wife, in which she informs readers of his passing away and highlights the importance for him, in his final moments, of including a thank you to all his readers in the blog… very touching.
I chose to start with The Prestige due to my familiarity with the film, which I appreciated very much. I also bought The Islanders because the project reminded me of Le città invisibili by Calvino, who is one of my favorite Italian writers.
