Scrive prevalentemente per bambini: dopo aver lavorato per la BBC e come autore di opere per la radio, si è cimentato con la poesia. Il suo primo libro di poesie fu pubblicato in una collana per bambini, nonostante le poesie non fossero state pensate dall’autore per quel pubblico. Ciò segnò la sua carriera… a punto da finire nominato Children’s Laureate nel 2007: un riconoscimento nato per mettere in evidenza l’importante ruolo della letteratura per ragazzi e premiare gli autori che hanno dato un contributo significativo in quell'ambito. Sicuramente Michael Rosen è tra loro, se considerate che ha scritto più di 100 libri per bambini, di diversi generi: romanzi, poesie e altro. Si occupa anche di educazione, scrivendo libri per insegnanti e si (pre)occupa del National Curriculum (in un certo senso, lo standard didattico-educativo nel Regno Unito), nei confronti del quale è spesso polemico.

Ho scelto di iniziare con la sua autobiografia (per conoscerlo meglio) e poi leggere una raccolta di poesie che, da insegnante, non potevo ignorare (toccano un  tema importante: l’immigrazione).

He writes mainly for children: after working for BBC and writing plays for the radio, he wrote poems. His first collection was published in a book series for children, although the poems were not aimed at that audience. This marked a turning point in his career. He was appointed Children’s Laureate in 2007: an award born to highlight the important role of children’s literature and to reward the authors who made a significant contribution in the field. Michael Rosen is certainly one of them, if you think that he has written more than 100 different books for children: novels, poems and other. He also deals with education, writing book for teachers and is concerned with the National Curriculum (the programme of study in schools) against which he is quite polemical.

Well, I’ve decided to start with his autobiography (just to get to know him better)  and then try one collection of his poems that , as a teacher, I can’t ignore (poems on migration… such an important issue).
