E’ un autore che si è occupato di generi e argomenti diversi: romanzi, testi storici, biografie… seconda guerra mondiale, Chernobyl, templari… nella maggior parte dei casi per dare un quadro desolante dell’umanità.
Nei suoi personaggi emergono tratti misantropi, attraverso i quali l’autore in parte si rivela.
E’ anche noto per essere un fervente cattolico: il peccato circonda spesso i suoi personaggi ed è proprio il modo in cui reagiscono a definirli. Lui stesso è definito attraverso le sue posizioni rigide e conservatrici, in particolare contro omosessualità e femminismo: non ha avuto il successo che forse meritava come romanziere proprio perchè ‘incasellato’ nella categoria ‘superato’, troppo moralista.
La dimensione dove ha avuto più consensi è quella storica.
Non apprezzo particolarmente le sue posizioni ma ho deciso di leggere ugualmente una sua opera: ho scelto The Misogynist.

His characters have misanthropic traits, which in part reveal the author himself.
He’s known to be a devout Catholic: sin surrounds his characters and they are often defined by the way they react to it. He has also been defined by his strict conservative positions, in particular against homosexuality and feminism: he hasn’t had the success he deserved as a novelist probably because he has been pigeonholed in the ‘outdated’ category.
His most appreciated works were the historical texts.
I don’t appreciate much his positions but I decided to read one of his books anyway: The Mysoginist.
