Benjamin Zephaniah

Read it in English

Here I am… at the starting point, which is the end. Yes… as stated, I’m going to start with letter Z, which is also encouraging because there’s only one author: BENJAMIN ZEPHANIAH. Who is he?
First of all… let me introduce my ‘scientific approach’.
I’m an obsessive archivist (if I could I would put the part of my body in alphabetical order!) and an IT enthusiast so,  I’ll create a folder for every new author where I’ll put materials for my vast archive (‘LITERATURE’). It’s an archive I’ve started when I was at university, studying English literature. As soon as I started studying new authors, I used to create a new file with some biographical information and an annotated bibliography, and then I used to add my notes from the classes/courses. After university, while I was working as a teacher, I started adding useful materials for my lessons: exercises, classroom activities, projects. I used to find images of the author online and registering works of art inspired by him/her. I registered also films, music, painting, comics (I love interdisciplinarity and, in general, the links between works of art… everything we produce is somehow influenced by what we have seen/watched/heard until that moment… and so I have always liked comparing how the classics live again within modern works). Then I started saving other materials from the Internet like quizzes, crosswords, tests and study guides of the movies inpsired by the works of an author… You can figure out the size of my archive. It’s a paradox that I’m no longer teaching high school students. But I have all intentions to go on that way. Firstly: it gives me pleasure. Secondly: for the theory of the ant. “What’s that?” you would say. Well… I can summarize it: “Save, just in case you’ll need it”. It sounds trivial, but I can assure you that it always works with me. When you least expect it, there comes a day when you need the things you saved… and it’s even more true when we talk about materials for teaching.
So, let’s go back to Benjamin Zephaniah… let me do some research.
